Tara Warrington

Director of Strategic Planning

Tara Warrington recently joined Meeting Street Schools as Director of Strategic Planning following seven years of serving schools in under-resourced communities as an elementary principal in both the public and charter sector. Prior to moving to Charleston, Tara was an elementary principal at the first public charter school for girls in Washington DC in the heart of the Anacostia community.

Her ten years as an elementary teacher started in her hometown outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and ended at Fairfax County Virginia. In addition to teaching, Tara coached both volleyball and basketball. Knowing first-hand the powerful impact sports can have on adolescents, Tara was eager to coach high school girls.

Tara received a scholarship to play basketball at Saint Vincent College where she was named Player of the Year and Kodak All-American her junior and senior year. Tara received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Elementary Education. She received her master’s degree in School Leadership at the University of Pittsburgh.

Passionate about equity in education, Tara has dedicated her career to being an advocate for youth and their families living in underserved neighborhoods. She is incredibly grateful and honored to be a part of the Meeting Street Schools team as they work relentlessly to transform education in South Carolina.

In her leisure time, Tara enjoys researching health and fitness, cooking and working out on the beach with her husband, John, and their dog, Harlan.
