Meeting Street Elementary & Middle – Brentwood students aren’t even in high school yet, but they spent time Wednesday thinking about their college options.
The school hosted a College & Career Ready Event to encourage students to contemplate their future and learn more about potential colleges, scholarships and grants.
“The goal of this event is to have families feel prepared for their next steps,” said Bianca Banton, operations manager for the Brentwood campus. “When we provide that information, they’ll feel secure knowing that there’s a way.”
Nearly 50 students and their family members talked with representatives from the College of Charleston and Trident Technical College and learned about the Meeting Street Scholarship Fund.
Brentwood parent Shakera Duggins said she learned about different financial options that can help pay for college.
“So (money) shouldn’t have to stop them from being able to further their education,” she said. “This allows my children to be able to know what options they have as far as what they can do after high school and what resources they have to be able to help them succeed.”
