Giving Tuesday is a global movement taking place on Tuesday, December 3. Each year, nonprofits, small businesses, brands, schools, and religious organizations all over the world celebrate the global day of giving. Leading up to Giving Tuesday, we’ve asked our community to support Meeting Street Schools not only with their dollars but more importantly, with their time.
On Friday, September 13, senior football students from Charleston-area high school, Porter Gaud, visited Meeting Street Academy – Charleston. They volunteered their time by teaching football and agility clinics to MSA students during their regularly scheduled physical education classes, but their visit meant so much more. While P.E. Teachers Kailan Boston and Joshua Grimard might have prepared the players for teaching elementary students, nothing could have prepared them for the student’s joy and excitement they experienced during their visit. Even the Pre-K students gathered around during their recess time to play ball with the seniors.
Porter Gaud not only donated their entire morning to Meeting Street Schools, but they also provided tickets for students and families to attend the Porter Gaud home game that evening. The football players said, “We enjoyed spending time with children from other schools, seeing the smiles on their faces, and being able to teach them something new.” The players also emphasized how the students had a “ton of energy” and “wore them out.”
Thank you to our wonderful community partner, Porter Gaud, for making a difference in our schools and in our community. Subscribe to the blog below and be the first to know about our next Giving Story for #GivingTuesday.
